Patient Pal
Hackathon June '26
A small experiment, prototype, or rapid-build project worth sharing.

Challenge
Design the future patient experience…not just a digital product, but a moment, a space, or a service that makes the experience of being a patient more human, more clear, or more empowering than it is today.
The scale of the problem
60% of patients report a negative healthcare experience over three months.
30% of hospital visitors experience disorientation navigating to the right department.
We split into teams of two and first began with jotting many negative experiences then ideas down like a health-related Alexa to a wayfinding solution.
We realised that designing around a patient's want to feel seen and heard to avoid further distress was something to take further. We journey mapped out one common experience: going to A and E and waiting in the chaos for hours.
We designed for patients arriving in acute admissions who struggle with feeling invisible and uninformed at the moment they're waiting, often in pain or fear, without knowing where they stand in the system or what's being done for them.
Our solution will help them feel seen, oriented, and in control of their own care.
